Onslow Village Lawn Tennis Club has a thriving Junior Section of approximately 75 members and Junior club play is open to all every Sunday between 17:00 and 19:00. Juniors are also welcome to make use of the courts at most times outside the dedicated adult and off peak sessions, making junior membership an ideal school holiday activity! Junior membership usually starts from age 8 and costs £20 per year. Subscriptions are renewable annually every April. Club shoe tags are issued to confirm membership and should be worn by all juniors whilst playing on court. In addition a comprehensive junior coaching programe is provided by our club coach Nick Weal. 12 week blocks of coaching are offered 3 times a year commencing each April, September and January. Hourly sessions run on a Monday or Friday afternoon between 16:30 and 19:30. Each coaching group is based on ability and age and costs £50 for a 12 week period. All children attending coaching (with the exception of under 8’s mini tennis) are required to be junior members of the club. All junior members are eligible to compete in interclub matches and we currently play teams in two local leagues. The Guildford & District League, which plays during the summer and comprises of mixed pairs at age 12 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under. In the Aldershot and District League, which runs throughout the year, we currently compete at both U13 and U16 levels. Finally, each summer, we hold an annual inter-Club tournament. Entry is open to all club juniors to any of the 5 categories played, that is Boys or Girls singles, Boys or Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles. This knock out styled competition culminates with the finals being played on our Club Finals Day in July alongside our adult members. With a BBQ and afternoon tea available for players and spectators alike this usually ensures a great day for tennis at the club. We are always delighted to welcome new players to the club and for more information about the Junior Section, or to request a membersip or coaching application form please contact Helen Curtis. |
